Flip video horizontally in Safari on iPhone
Turn a web tutorial into a mirror view, so you can follow the movement without swapping left and right in your head.
What does a horizontal video flip do?
It reflects the picture from left to right. An object on the left moves to the right, while the top and bottom stay in the same place. Playback continues forwards; a horizontal flip does not play the clip backwards.
This is useful when you are copying a movement from someone facing the camera. A dance tutorial, workout demonstration or technique lesson can be easier to follow in a mirror view. Choose the view that matches how you want to practise.
How to mirror a video in Safari
- Install and enable MirrorFlip. In iPhone Settings, find Safari, open Extensions and enable MirrorFlip. Allow access to the website you want to mirror. Use the full setup guide if this is your first time.
- Open the tutorial’s webpage in Safari. Keep the video playing within the page.
- Open MirrorFlip. Use Safari’s page or extensions menu beside the address field. Older versions may show an AA button.
- Select Flip Video. Check that left and right have switched. Select the same control again to return to the original view.
Safari’s menu labels can vary. Apple’s extension settings guide explains how to enable extensions and manage them for a website.
Flip Video or Flip Page?
Flip Video targets video in the webpage, leaving the surrounding page layout alone. Text that is part of the video image, such as an on-screen label, will still appear backwards.
Flip Page reflects the whole webpage, including text, images and controls. It is an alternative to try when an embedded player does not respond to Flip Video. Page mirroring can also be useful for a web-based script displayed in a teleprompter mirror rig.
Try each option separately on our demonstration page to see the difference.
Using a mirror view for dance and workouts
For an instructor facing the camera, mirroring swaps the sides of the visual demonstration. Try a short section and decide which view is easiest to follow. If the original lesson is already mirrored, another flip restores the opposite view.
Listen to the instructor’s directions as well as watching. Mirroring changes the picture, not the spoken instructions, captions or exercise itself. MirrorFlip does not add speed controls, looping or movement analysis.
Can I rotate a video from portrait to landscape?
A horizontal flip and a rotation do different jobs. Flipping swaps left and right; rotation turns the picture. MirrorFlip does not rotate the screen or convert a portrait video into a landscape file. For saved clips, see the Photos option in our iPhone mirroring guide.
What are the playback limits?
The effect works inside Safari’s webpage. The built-in iOS fullscreen video player shows the normal, unflipped video. Return to playback within the page to use the mirror view. Website players and embedded content vary, so compatibility is not universal.
MirrorFlip changes how the page looks on your device. It does not save an edited video or upload it anywhere. If you get stuck, use our video-not-flipping checklist.
